Leadership

The Council receives direction from the Leadership. This body is made up of the 14 member Chiefs or their delegates and usually occurs approximately every six weeks, except in the summer months when there is a break from Leadership meetings. At these meetings, the Leadership receives reports from the senior managers of the organization. Other governments and non-governmental organizations also present to Leadership. Advice, or direction is then provided on the matters through the Grand Chief. The Council is mandated and directed by Leadership and the General Assembly. Although, the Council is no longer required to negotiate Land Claims, there are many issues arising that reflect the Yukon First Nation people. On behalf of the Yukon First Nations the Council strives to find solutions, or resolution for each of the common table initiatives. All Leadership meetings are run on the principal of consensus.
