YFN Public Service Initiative

Currently there are 14 Yukon First Nations in the Territory: 11 of the First Nations are self governing, three are not. A number of the self governing First Nations also have development corporations. As an employer, each First Nation is responsible for developing and implementing human resource policies and processes. We have been working in isolation of one another for many years when it comes to human resource initiatives and practices.

A proposal was submitted to the Government of Yukon requesting funding to establish and support the operation of the Yukon First Nation Public Service (YFNPS), an umbrella entity that will work with all Yukon First Nations to improve human resource management within First Nation governments. The project is being funded by Canada under the Northern Strategy Trust and allocated by the Yukon Government and Yukon First Nations together through the Yukon Forum.
