CYFN to host the 37th Annual General Assembly and celebrations
Whitehorse, Yukon – The Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) will host the 37th Annual General Assembly (AGA) on the Traditional Territory of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation at the new Learning Centre in Carcross from June 27-29, 2017.
The theme of the AGA is, “Our People Living the Vision” of Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow. This year, CYFN will also be revitalizing the former Yukon Indian Days gatherings previously held in the 1970’s and 1980’s that brought people together to share and celebrate Yukon First Nations culture through songs, dance, activities and friendly competitions.
CYFN Grand Chief Peter Johnston said, “We are excited to revitalize this gathering to enjoy in the spirit of sharing, unity, connection, and celebration. We look forward to co-hosting with Carcross/Tagish First Nation.”
“The CYFN Annual General Assembly will bring together delegates and families of First Nations from across the Yukon in June. We are very pleased to partner with the CYFN on this event, which will bring significant attention to Carcross and provide economic benefits to our community,” said Chief Andy Carvill of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation.
A tradeshow and artist market will showcase community and business booths. A gala feast is planned for Wednesday, June 28th to honour past First Nation leaders followed by performances by comedian Don Burnstick and The Derek Miller Band. First Nations Citizens and families are strongly encouraged to attend. This year’s presenting sponsor is The Hougen’s Group of Companies and many other sponsors.
