The Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) is pleased to announce the Family Violence Prevention Gathering: Connecting for Change, taking place September 25-26, 2024, at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. The purpose of this gathering is to tackle pressing concerns regarding family violence and to promote healing rooted in culture.
Participants will engage in impactful workshops and shared experiences, focusing on culturally relevant strategies to prevent family violence. This gathering builds connections, shares resources, and creates a supportive network to improve the lives of individuals and families in our community.
As part of the upcoming gathering, CYFN will announce that the Family Preservation Wellness Centre is set to open in early winter 2024, becoming the first Yukon First Nations-led facility of its kind in the Yukon. This centre will offer safe temporary housing for women and children escaping, with a capacity of 32 beds. Residents will benefit from culturally relevant programming and support aimed at facilitating their transition to permanent housing, enhancing the overall safety and well-being of the community.
Healing begins with connection and our cultural values. We build a stronger community, when we empower each other, we can end the cycle of violence and create a nurturing environment for every family.
