Boards and Committees

The Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) administers a nomination process for Yukon First Nations-designated seats on all boards and committees that were established in connection to the Umbrella Final Agreement (UFA) to ensure the joint management of a number of specific areas outlined in the UFA.

In addition, CYFN administers a nomination process for Yukon First Nations-designated seats on the Yukon University Board of Governors, the Yukon Energy Corporation, and the Yukon Development Corporation.

Process

CYFN advertises a call for applications from Yukon First Nations citizens to fill current and upcoming vacancies on boards and committees.

A selection committee consisting of Yukon First Nation citizens review applications received for each respective board and committee and scores them according to criteria as outlined in CYFN’s Boards and Committees Policy. The highest-scoring applicants are advanced to Leadership for assent.

Leadership reviews the recommendations from the selection committee and makes the final determination of those that CYFN will nominate for each board and committee.

Following Leadership’s assent, CYFN issues notification letters to the Ministers responsible for each respective board and committee to inform them of CYFN’s nomination decision. The final decision to appoint those nominated by CYFN rests with the Minister responsible for each respective board and committee. The Training Policy Committee is the exception, as CYFN’s nominees are directly appointed.
